Welcome to Blackshawhead Methodist Church

|
We are a family-friendly church serving this hilltop community high on the Pennines above Hebden Bridge in the Calder Valley.
|
We are very much a part of our community, and as we are the only church in the village our membership comes from a variety of backgrounds. (Anglicans and Catholics as well as Methodists and those with no particular denomination)
This diversity is reflected in the way we work and worship.
The congregation, though relatively small, comprises all age ranges, and carries out a thriving work with children and young people.
We aim to be the spiritual heart of the village, and “Body of Christ” in Blackshawhead, serving the local community in whatever ways we can. We organise an annual “village fun week”, (see “CELEBRATE” page) and we also help by making the building available for community events such as the village fete, and by the production of a regular newsletter, the “Blackshaw Headlines”, delivered by members to every house.
The church provides further ministry to the community through its graveyard, and the offer of accommodation for meetings of other occasional or regular users; this being even more necessary following the recent closure of the local pub. We are in the middle of a programme of renovation of our building.
We take an active part in the planning and leading of our worship, and the last Sunday of every month is a family service planned and led entirely by the congregation. We meet monthly for a Saturday morning prayer breakfast (9 am, usually on the second Saturday - you are very welcome to join us for tea, toast and home-made jam!)
The chapel also hosts a weekly Mums and Toddlers Group, Arts and Crafts group, Pilates class, and occasional Roman Catholic masses. The church is a member of Churches Together in Hebden Royd.
